Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel
A prayer for protection against evil, composed by Pope Leo XIII.
Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
History
Pope Leo XIII composed this prayer in 1886 after reportedly having a vision of Satan attacking the Church. It was prayed after Low Mass until 1964 and has seen a revival in recent decades.
When to Pray
Many Catholics pray this daily for protection. It is especially appropriate in times of spiritual struggle or when facing evil.
