The traditional Catholic thanksgiving after meals, with its plea for the faithful departed, in English and Latin.
We give Thee thanks, almighty God, for all Thy benefits, who livest and reignest world without end. Amen. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
In Latin
Agimus tibi gratias, omnipotens Deus, pro universis beneficiis tuis, qui vivis et regnas in saecula saeculorum. Amen. Fidelium animae, per misericordiam Dei, requiescant in pace. Amen.
History
The companion to the grace before meals, this prayer adds something easy to miss: the Church's custom of remembering the dead at the family table, joining every ordinary supper to the communion of saints.
When to Pray
After meals — the second line makes it a twice-daily act of charity toward the holy souls that costs ten seconds.
